Proposed Legislation That Will Increase YOUR Costs
New York State was recently ranked the worst state to start a business. But some Albany politicians don’t care and want to increase costs on businesses and consumers.
The bills that NYLB include:
S448/ A4278: Would allow trial lawyers to bring frivolous lawsuit against businesses on behalf of other organizations who weren’t even allegedly harmed. This unnecessary bill comes after the legislature just bolstered the Department of Labor’s ability to enforce New York’s strict employment laws.
S1464/ A1749: Adds extreme financial strain for businesses, even those already taking steps to reduce waste. Instead, NYLB supports S5062, which better governs bad actors while creating a regulatory roadmap that local businesses can handle/
S213/ A4424: Goes overboard in policing the marketing plans of NY-based restaurants. Restaurant owners will have to hire lawyers to approve budgets and plans for how they reach customers to provide affordable and healthy food.
S335/ A2015: According to the Business Council of NY, the bill would replace New York’s antitrust laws with the most anti-consumer and anti-competitive law in the nation and perhaps the industrialized world; making New York a global outlier to the detriment of all New Yorkers
Taken together, these bills pose a grave risk to a state that is already on thin economic ice. New Yorkers can’t afford higher costs just so politicians can bow to special interests.
